The talented Anaïs Mitchell wrote the composition, verses, and narrative for the production Hadestown. It recounts a reimagined version of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice, a young girl in need of sustenance, ventures to work in a bleak industrial depiction of the Greek underworld to escape poverty and the biting cold. Her beau Orpheus, a poor singer-songwriter, undertakes on a journey to save her.
During its first Broadway launch, the musical earned 14 Tony Awards nods, securing eight coveted accolades.
