The talented Anaïs Mitchell wrote the music, lyrics, and book for the production Hadestown. It recounts a retold version of the time-honored myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice, a young girl in need of sustenance, sets out to work in a harsh industrial portrayal of the Greek underworld to evade poverty and the biting cold. Her beau Orpheus, a penniless singer-songwriter, embarks on a journey to rescue her.
